ARTSblog » NAMPC09: "Whew, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I can talk about something really important.
Bob Dylan led the bootcamp! Actually, it was Alice Sachs Zimet. But go with me here. Imagine a female version of Bob Dylan: thick, curly hair and thin wise-looking face. Those among you who’ve seen Dylan perform, as I have a gazillion times, will even recognize her self-confident, loosey-goosey movements as those of Dylan on stage. I mean the comparison as a compliment. A big one. Sachs Zimet has a great resume for arts marketing—having worked in the field for many years—but her presentation, her “performance,” was impressive."

Nueces County Record Star > Editorial > For holidays, try to think outside the box: "But this year, with everyone hurting in his or her wallets and purses, let us try to take a different tactic with one another. How about instead of those four or five gifts, we give one nice gift that will serve a purpose beyond entertainment?

If you insist on buying more than one gift, then think about donating those extra gifts to the Toys-for-Tots campaign or the Salvation Army. Non-profit organizations across the country are seeing a dramatic drop-off in donations, so why not use this holiday season to help them get back on track?"

Donor Motivations for Giving Vary with Income and Education - Resource Center - AFP
Oct. 27, 2009) A new analysis by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University has revealed that income and education have more of an impact on donor motivation than regional trends and values.

Despite some longstanding perceptions that people in different regions of the United States are more or less motivated to give to charity based on differing underlying values that might be specific to a region, research seems to prove otherwise. While there are differences in the percentage of people who select different motivations within each region of the country, those variations can be explained by regional differences in income and education, not underlying values specific to the region.

How to find a career in fundraising

How to find a career in fundraising: "Actively pursuing a career in fundraising and development may seem a bit uncertain during this economic climate. It’s common knowledge that nonprofits are typically hit hardest in economic downturns as many consider donating a luxury, not an obligation.

However, according to an August 23, 2009 article in Parade Magazine titled, “American Generosity Survives Recession,” a recent study from the Rand Corporation shows that more people provided financial assistance than received it. According to the article, the Rand study further revealed that, “Even among those who were struggling themselves, 29 percent came to the aid of others.” The article goes on to quote a second study by the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS) showing that more people volunteered in 2008 than in 2007. With these reassuring studies in mind, now might be the perfect time to consider a certificate in fundraising and development."
