Challenge to benefit nonprofits | HeraldTribune.com: Area nonprofits will soon be seeking donations through computers and smartphones as part of the 36-hour Giving Challenge, which is in its second year.

Last year's event resulted in $2.4 million raised through 10,700 gifts to benefit the 109 participating nonprofits. The event includes 285 organizations this year.

The Blackbaud Index: Overall Charitable Giving in January 2013 Was Up 3.6%, and Online Giving Grew 13.7% | Blackbaud News: he Blackbaud Index today reported that overall giving increased 3.6% and online giving increased 13.7% for the three months ending January 2013 as compared to the same period in 2012, indicating a continued recovery of charitable giving.

As reported in last month’s release of the Charitable Giving Report, overall giving grew approximately 2% for full year 2012 and online giving grew by about 11% in 2012 compared to 2011.

Government funding accounted for over 65 percent of the total revenue of organizations surveyed. Sixty percent of nonprofits said government contracts and grants were their largest funding source.

Andy Roddick sues cancer charity for unpaid appearance fee: The retired tennis star is suing the Miracle Match Foundation for failure to pay him a $100,000 after playing in a charity match and doing a meet-and-greet last September. The suit says the foundation sent Roddick two $50,000 checks before the September event. Both allegedly bounced.

If the filing is accurate, Roddick agreed to perform a service for a specific amount of money, then performed the service and received no money. That's simple breach of contract.
