Bennie Thompson (D-MS) to the American Red Cross, asking CEO Gail McGovern about the effects layoffs, cutbacks, and chapter consolidations might have on the organization’s ability to respond to disasters, especially in rural areas. NPQ has also reported on other chapter consolidations within federated organizations and has expressed concern about the degree to which this can weaken the network of services and their availability in more rural areas."

The Light Opera Works in Chicago wants to rename itself, and is starting with a call to audience members for their ideas. “After 35 years, we’ve decided to make a change,” cofounder and general manager Bridget McDonough said. “‘Light Opera Works’ has been a wonderful name for a long time, but we feel it no longer tells the full story of who we are and what we do.”"
