Willis Turner-Five Fundraising Paradigm Shifts in 2015 : FundRaising Success
Willis Turner-Five Fundraising Paradigm Shifts in 2015 : FundRaising Success: "Everybody knows fundraising has gotten tougher over the last decade. But something tells me this year could be some kind of turning point — if for no other reason than the current course of things is unsustainable. Call me the crazy optimist, but here are five big changes I see on the horizon:

The Next Big Trend in Fundraising | LinkedIn
The Next Big Trend in Fundraising | LinkedIn: "Don’t you get bored with fundraising?” my friend, a fundraising consultant who's been branching out into other lines of work, asked me recently. “I mean, how many times can you write about the same thing?” Then I had this email conversation with another consultant recently, who had just come from a major conference:"

How big is your donor? 101fundraising
How big is your donor? 101fundraising: Along with the World Cup (depending on the team, of course), we celebrate fund raising achievements. We look at results and trends from last year and partly with a sigh of relief and hope for this year: in 2013 in US charitable giving was at the same level it was before the financial crisis and in UK there was an 800m increase in donations. So, why we shouldn’t do better this year? In reality we should also ask ourselves if this is the result of more people giving or if we are simply fishing in the same pond with a lower offer. Mark Astarita, the fundraising director of British Red Cross and outgoing chair of UK Institute of Fundraising, simply put it “Over 30 years of professional fundraising have we grown the pie, are more people giving? I’m not so sure.” And Ken Burnett argued that the actual costs of acquisition with typical low retention rates are not sustainable and charities would be stupid if they don’t take action to avoid eating their seed corn.

The AFP Blog: The Key to Giving
The AFP Blog: The Key to Giving: hese trends are good for philanthropy. We need new ideas to keep philanthropy strong and vibrant and force fundraisers and charities to rethink strategy and tactics.
So I’m always taken aback by quotes like this from a recent Fast Company article about the rise of socially conscious buying: “Americans have done about what they are capable of or willing to do as far as donations go.”

High-Speed Trends in Philanthropy: An Oxymoron
High-Speed Trends in Philanthropy: An Oxymoron: In this new world that is driven by the interchange of thoughts and opinions flying back and forth across the globe, philanthropy has taken on a new guise.
Let's explore one of these trends that I find particularly exciting.
"Giving while living" is the new mantra for many family funds. The trend is simply to spend down the corpus of a family fund within a set period of time. The debate continues between the idea of giving in perpetuity and the instant gratification that comes with giving it all away in the near future. This discussion, which can become quite heated, has been going on for decades, but it seems to have accelerated in the past several years as more family funds are inherited by a generation of individuals wanting to see quick returns on their investment.

How smaller communities can use networking events to raise money - Information, research and resources for fundraisers and their leaders
How smaller communities can use networking events to raise money - Information, research and resources for fundraisers and their leaders: The Social Networking for Charity event was created as a means to ‘give back’ to the local community. While planning this unique event in the city of Sault Ste. Marie, I was very fortunate to receive support in the form of donations for prizes. The event, held on the evening of January 30, consisted of an informal discussion about the benefits of using social media networking as a means to advertise; we also provided a brief review of upcoming trends for 2014.

Where fundraising, crowdsourcing and gamification meet – lessons from Super Bowl
Where fundraising, crowdsourcing and gamification meet – lessons from Super Bowl: Two of the biggest marketing trends are crowdsourcing and gamification. They’ve been tried and tested and are ready for charities to adopt. You might think they are new and too risky but I beg to differ.

Survey Shows Donor Retention Still Undervalued by Nonprofits
Survey Shows Donor Retention Still Undervalued by Nonprofits: It was a disappointment to read in Kivi Leroux Miller's 2014 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report that donor retention is still not highly valued by many people working at nonprofits.
The Report states:
"Donor retention continues to be a hot topic . . . But are nonprofits doing more than talking about it? In our 2013 report, acquisition beat retention as a goal by nearly 2 to 1. In 2014, the number of nonprofits selecting retention as a top three goal held steady at 30%, while acquisition as a top three goal fell from 57% to 53%."

Donors Flee When Processing Too Slow | The NonProfit Times
Donors Flee When Processing Too Slow | The NonProfit Times: hiloh Stark, chief digital officer at Amnesty International (AI) in Washington, D.C., was unhappy six months ago when he looked at the organization’s website traffic from mobile devices. There were an impressive number of visitors from mobile users but the visitors who made a gift through their donation page were considerably fewer.
“The primary thing we saw was our mobile traffic rate was up but our mobile conversion rate was down,” said Stark. “These were trends that were important to our future campaigns.” They got to work on creating an improved donation page.

Our Opinion: OHSU hits the field running to win big time
Our Opinion: OHSU hits the field running to win big time: aking Oregon a trendsetter in philanthropy would be another side benefit if OHSU is able to pull this off. The clock, however, is already ticking, and the outcome is less than certain. People involved with philanthropy say the quickest route to success would be to tap people with the ability to give $1 million or more.
This list could include OHSU’s current major donors, other foundations and contributors who’ve never been approached before. Also, according to the experts, it could include Nike suppliers and athletes who’ve been helped by Nike along the way — a potential source of nonconventional donors.

Marc Chardon: Nonprofit Trends: Seeking Careers with Meaning
Marc Chardon: Nonprofit Trends: Seeking Careers with Meaning: n my last post, I shared that nonprofits employ 10 percent of all workers in America. And that number is growing pretty dramatically. One big reason why is that Millennials and Boomers alike -- and others in between -- are seeking what I like to call "careers with meaning."

No Money for Donor Acquisition? Focus on Retention
No Money for Donor Acquisition? Focus on Retention: At a FundRaising Success conference, Roger Craver reminded attendees of the importance of donor retention. Craver is the founder of DonorTrends and chief blogger at The Agitator.
In his keynote address at the conference, Craver said that, during these difficult times, we should focus our resources on our organization's "missionaries," "loyalists," and "lapsed donors."
