Experts Question Survey Showing Dip in Fundraiser Pay - News - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas

Experts Question Survey Showing Dip in Fundraiser Pay - News - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas: Andrew Watt, president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, acknowledged that the pay decline in the new survey may have been caused by an “anomaly” in the 2012 data.

He noted that the salary data for 2010, 2011, and 2013 were “roughly the same.”

Mr. Watt agreed that the job market for fundraisers remains strong. “Given the continued growth in philanthropy, even with the recession, good fundraisers are in high demand,” Mr. Watt wrote in an email to The Chronicle. “There has always been a strong market for excellent fundraising skills, and I don’t see the end in sight anytime soon.”

When Funds Go Missing, What Can You Do? What Must You Do? - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly

When Funds Go Missing, What Can You Do? What Must You Do? - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly: One of the most difficult situations I’ve encountered while counseling nonprofit boards over the years is when they have discovered that the organization’s funds have been embezzled, most commonly by an insider. Two real-life situations are particularly noteworthy. In the first instance, the executive director stole more than a million dollars; in the second case, a former executive director and board member conspired to steal $4,000,000 from the organization. In each instance, the other board members approached me

Successful charities should pay well enough to attract excellent executives | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional

Successful charities should pay well enough to attract excellent executives | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional: Reading some of the comments and opinions about charity pay, it is evident that many people still think charities should largely be run by volunteers, a view reinforced in a recent New Philanthropy Capital publication Mind the Gap: What the public thinks about charities. It shows that 16% of the public believe charity chief executives should not be paid at all. The reality is that most charities are wholly run by volunteers. According to the NCVO report fewer than one in 10 charities employ any staff at all, and only 1% of charity staff are paid more than 60,000.

In fact, according to NCVO's report, the charity discount – the pay reduction somebody accepts if they want to work in the charity sector rather than the private sector – is up to 45%, when taking into account bonuses and other incentives. If

The toolkit draws heavily on extensive research conducted in three U.S. metro areas — Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Baltimore — in 2012 and 2013 as well as examples gleaned from elsewhere in the United States. The research focuses on city- and state-level policies, but refers to national policies, organizations, and programs when relevant.
