The legislation which was part of several incentives to promote the formation and development of county foundations in Iowa, provided that one half of one percent of the gross receipts of gambling be targeted to non gaming counties who established countywide community foundations. There are 85 non-gambling counties in Iowa who will be splitting over $5.4 million to jump start local philanthropic activities in their county. "

A BAPTIST preacher who raised £1.25 million in sponsorship by running the London Marathon in April had the figure officially confirmed as a world record last week.
Steve Chalke, from St Augustine's Avenue, South Croydon, was given the welcome news by Guinness World Records.
The 49-year-old, an occasional presenter on Songs of Praise and GMTV, now holds the title for 'most money raised by an individual marathon runner'."
