Nonprofit academy launches in Lynchburg - NewsAdvance.com : Local News: hese course titles, and more, opened for business in Lynchburg on Tuesday with the official launch of the Central Virginia Academy for Nonprofit Excellence.
The academy, commonly known as CVANE, will offer classes to teach skills needed in running a successful nonprofit group. Its kickoff event Tuesday at Central Virginia Community College drew about 50 nonprofit organizers from the Lynchburg area as well as Anne Holton, the wife of Sen. Timothy M. Kaine.

The seventh semi-annual survey, conducted by PhilanTech and GrantStation, provides a snapshot of the current state of grantseeking. The 1,108 respondents represent a wide range of nonprofits, varying in size, geographic location and mission focus.
Over 80% of respondent organizations received grant awards in the first six months of 2013. More organizations received larger grants than in the same period in 2012, but the median grant size decreased by 8%.

Twitter Helps Intel Foundation Plan Grants - Technology - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas: The Intel Foundation plans to award $100,000 in education grants to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and it turned to Twitter for advice on what programs and organizations to support.
“We thought it was a great opportunity to engage in a conversation with people who don’t usually have the opportunity to have a voice in donating that kind of money,” says Wendy Hawkins, the fund’s executive director. “We also thought we might get some really good ideas that we just wouldn’t come up with on our own.”

Should an Organization Have a Formal Gift-Acceptance Policy? - Fundraising Non-Profit Fund-raising Resource - Tony Poderis | Fundraising Non-Profit Fund-raising Resource – Tony Poderis: am often asked—and it is a recurring topic in fund-raising forums—about whether non-profits should have a formal gift-acceptance policy. My questioners aren’t just concerned about the rare donation that may come with a tinge of doubt about the donor or a level of concern that acceptance of a specific gift may shine a less than favorable light on the organization. Some seem to have a desire to delineate in writing what an organization will and will not accept as a donation.

State regulators eye even stricter rules | MLive.com: Michigan's charity gaming industry grew from less than $8 million in chip sales in fiscal year 2004 to more than $197 million in fiscal year 2011. Chip sales dipped to $184 million in fiscal 2012. The games have raised $103 million for charities in the past nine years, while poker rooms raked in $86 million and players won more than $680 million.
But much of that could come to a halt early next year if the Michigan Gaming Control Board goes through with proposed rule changes that would effectively eliminate permanent charity poker rooms. Officials say the rule changes address problems with gaming violations and crimes at some poker rooms while making sure charities' best interests are protected.
