If signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, the 2014-15 spending plan would bring the first increase in 11 years for the California Arts Council, which has received $1-million in taxpayer funds annually since 2003-2004.

massnonprofit.org ::: June 12, 2014 — Leaders at Massachusetts nonprofits receive an average annual base salary of $119,952 while nearly half of the staff at small to mid-sized organizations earn under $28,000 annually, according to a recently completed, comprehensive salary and benefit survey of the state’s nonprofit sector.
The survey, undertaken for Third Sector New England (TSNE), a Boston-based nonprofit that provides management resources to other nonprofits, examined compensation practices at 250 small to mid-sized nonprofits.
According to the survey, executive directors or chief executive officers at nonprofits with annual budgets up to $250,000 get an average yearly base salary of $52,944. Those with annual budgets of $250,000 to $1 million get an average base salary of $72,916, while those with annual budgets of $1 million to $2.5 million get an average annual base pay of $106,533.

But the reality is that giving is up by more than four percent in the US, according to the newly released Giving USA report that looks at giving levels from 2013.
Giving USA: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2013 highlights the estimated giving totals by Americans throughout the year 2013. The “estimation” is due to the slight fluctuation that may happen over the next two years based on additional input from the IRS. But, for the time being, giving in 2013 is reported to have reached $335.17 billion, which is the highest it has been since the Great Recession in 2009.

Fundraising gets a welcome lift | Crain's New York Business: A study of 122 nonprofit executives surveyed by Crain's and the Association of Fundraising Professionals-New York found that 57% of fundraisers believed their employers would bring in more money in 2014, but that only 44% think the overall landscape is improving. A majority seem to believe there is a greater need for the services they provide, with 66% reporting they are expanding programming.

Nonprofit Outreach helps homeless teens celebrate graduation: Jones is one of 25 homeless or formerly homeless seniors who received help from the faith-based organization this past year to enable them to earn their high school diploma or GED. Match Day fundraising drops this year: Yet, the number of donors was roughly the same for both years. On Thursday, 980 individual donations came in for 80 out of 96 nonprofits. Last year’s Match Day had 950 donors. Donation amounts and giving incentives differed this year and that, along with other factors the Community Foundation of North Florida suspects, made the difference.
Community Foundation executive director Joy Watkins said this year’s Match Day took place in June, compared to its first two years in November — the giving season.

"I am blessed every day that I open my eyes and put my feet on the ground," said Rivera. "So I decided to celebrate by giving back to Be The Match. I want to do a fundraising campaign they just started called, By the Mile."
Rivera's goal is a 100-day challenge, in which she will ride 1,000 miles on her bike and raise $10,000 for Be The Match to help get more donors on their registry.

Giving Tuesday�|�Peter A. Georgescu: We already have a Thursday dedicated to giving thanks every year. How about a Tuesday devoted to just giving. (The thanks will be coming back at you all on its own.) That was the notion behind #GivingTuesday, a movement devoted to creating a national holiday to encourage voluntarism and charity. From the movement's website: "It's a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Be a part of a national celebration of our great tradition of generosity." The mission: "To create a national holiday at the start of the holiday season to promote giving." Organizationally, two of my favorite organizations are playing a big role: the New York's 92nd St. Y, and the United Nations Foundation.
