The most charitable states in America | Deseret News: A recent Gallup poll has ranked each U.S. state by its charitable giving, listing Utah, Minnesota, and Hawaii as the most generous states.

A minimum of 600 citizens per state were asked whether they had personally donated money to charity, spent time volunteering with an organization, or both over the past month. All 50 states were polled between June and December of 2013.

Experts Question Survey Showing Dip in Fundraiser Pay - News - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas: Andrew Watt, president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, acknowledged that the pay decline in the new survey may have been caused by an “anomaly” in the 2012 data.

He noted that the salary data for 2010, 2011, and 2013 were “roughly the same.”

Mr. Watt agreed that the job market for fundraisers remains strong. “Given the continued growth in philanthropy, even with the recession, good fundraisers are in high demand,” Mr. Watt wrote in an email to The Chronicle. “There has always been a strong market for excellent fundraising skills, and I don’t see the end in sight anytime soon.”

It shows that 16% of the public believe charity chief executives should not be paid at all. The reality is that most charities are wholly run by volunteers. According to the NCVO report fewer than one in 10 charities employ any staff at all, and only 1% of charity staff are paid more than �60,000.
