A yen for volunteering - Metro

A yen for volunteering - Metro: "Some people are content with simply volunteering 10 hours to get into the 10,000 Hours Show and calling it quits, but not Rachel Beach.

While the 2004 UI graduate and part-time student is planning to attend the 10,000 Hours Show tonight, Beach said volunteering is a 'top priority' in her life.

'Ten hours doesn't mean anything to her,' said Mark Anthony Dingbaum, the group's executive director of outreach. Beach, 25, first started volunteering when she was a Rockford, Ill., high-school sophomore. She painted murals for local elementary schools and coached soccer for first graders. But the bulk of her volunteering efforts didn't start until she came to the UI."
