Why are charities obsessed with celebrating anniversaries? | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional
Why are charities obsessed with celebrating anniversaries? | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional: I talked to somebody last week from an overseas development charity that was busy preparing for its 40th anniversary. Not 50th, not 25th, but 40th. This is not unusual. Charities seem to be obsessed with celebrating anniversaries. It’s the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Tragedy … Who Cares? | Michael Rosen Says…: I, for one, care. And, I’m convinced that hundreds of millions of people around the globe care. I visited Ground Zero just weeks after the attack. Dust and broken glass were still everywhere. Tens of thousands of people ringed the entire site. The silence was only broken by an occasional sob or a child’s question. We were there to witness. We were there to mourn.

10th Anniversary of 9/11 Unlike Any Other: On the other hand, it is hard to escape the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Not that anyone wants to, sad as it is. In a USA Today article about the trauma of the anniversary, sociologist Brian Monahan said, "There's an inherent sadness, but alongside that is a celebratory undercurrent for how far we've come."
One of the nicest things any of us can do for the 9/11 anniversary is to visit 911.org and join the "I Will" campaign.
