Annual Warren Buffett lunch auction begins

Annual Warren Buffett lunch auction begins: The 15th annual lunch auction starts Sunday with a $25,000 minimum bid on eBay, and continues until 9:30 p.m. CDT Friday.

The lunch auction has become an important source of money for Glide, which has an $18 million annual budget. Glide's co-founders, the Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani, hope the lunch will draw another seven-figure price tag, but they also appreciate the exposure.

The chance to have lunch with the celebrated billionaire investor drew nine bidders and 77 bids, according to EBay Inc. The online auction started June 6 and ended at 10:30 p.m. New York time yesterday."

John Crace on how the credit crunch shrunk the charity lunch | Business | The Guardian

John Crace on how the credit crunch shrunk the charity lunch | Business | The Guardian: "Things aren't looking quite so good this time round. With the auction due to end on Friday, the bidding stands at $75,300. This is partly because hedge-fund managers are - thankfully - thinner on the ground, and partly because the ones who are still trading are the ones who realised it would be piss-poor PR to waste their client's money so extravagantly."

Is Sage off the menu for this year’s diners? - Times Online

Is Sage off the menu for this year’s diners? - Times Online: "This year, the auction has been open for a day. Against a minimum price of $25,000, the auction has seen only four bids, as I write, with a maximum of $30,100 offered so far. It runs until Friday, so there is time yet. But Buffett, along with plenty of other people, has had one of his worst ever years. The chance for you and up to seven of your friends to pick his brains over a T-bone and cola lunch — he picks up the tab but is notoriously frugal — might not be worth that much this time around."
