Women are more philanthropic than men: "In recent years, studies have dispelled myths about women and charitable giving. Debra Mesch, the director of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute (WPI) at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, says misconceptions—like that women don’t give big donations and that women have to ask a man, such as their husbands, before they can give money—still abound. But WPI has found that in almost every income bracket, women give more than men."

Groups Work on Attracting Women Philanthropists - NYTimes.com
Groups Work on Attracting Women Philanthropists - NYTimes.com: Apparently, the high-powered volunteers were on to something. The local United Way groups have grown into 137 Women’s Leadership Councils that have raised $985 million in 12 years.
The wider philanthropy world, too, is discovering the differences between men and women. A half-dozen studies have been published in the last two years — the first systematic research into gender and philanthropy — revealing that women generally donate more, are more actively involved in the given charities, demand more proof of effectiveness and prefer somewhat different causes than men.

Annual event celebrates The Power of the Purse
Annual event celebrates The Power of the Purse: "Since 2004, the foundation has sponsored an event called 'The Power of the Purse,' recognizing women and the work they do to help so many charitable causes.
Just think about the occasions we have given of our time. When our children are young, we volunteer at various fundraisers at their schools - bake sales, spaghetti suppers and pancake breakfasts. Maybe you are one of the ladies that take admissions at the Lake County Fair or make Easter Eggs to sell for charitable causes. We have done it all."

Women, Money, and Powerful Giving - Barbara Stanny - Wealth Coach - Forbes
Women, Money, and Powerful Giving - Barbara Stanny - Wealth Coach - Forbes: "I wish more women would do that…talk about giving away money. And I don’t mean to Visa, Starbucks, or Saks. Philanthropy is where the power (and the fun) is. And you don’t have to be a billionaire (or millionaire, for that matter) to participate.
Philanthropy is usually the least thought out, most disorganized part of our financial activities. We know charitable contributions save us taxes."

Women's Leadership Council paved new path for charity
Women's Leadership Council paved new path for charity: "How have women changed the face of charity in San Antonio?
It's not an idle question. The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County today is recognizing longtime civic leader Joci Straus for the spark she lit more than 10 years ago that led to the formation of the Women's Leadership Council.
It's an exclusive group, not only for how much money they give but also for the shoe-leather work many put into the charity as volunteers. Incredibly, until Straus marshaled local forces, this resource largely had gone untapped."

Tabby Biddle: Women and Philanthropy
Tabby Biddle: Women and Philanthropy: "Here's a myth for you: men donate more money to charity than women. Perhaps this myth stays alive because most people don't think of women as high-activity donors. But that's not true. Certainly women give of their time and skills to help worthy causes, but now they are bringing money too."

Here's to the Ladies who Lunch | hattiesburgamerican.com | Hattiesburg American: "n the nation's capital, the well-established Washington Area Women's Foundation gathered close to 1,200 boisterous women of every race and ethnicity in a downtown hotel ballroom where they were greeted by a local TV anchor, saluted by someone from the White House, entertained by a professionally produced video and inspired by women helped by their largesse. In North Carolina, the fledgling Women's Network assembled a couple of hundred women in a suburban hotel ballroom for a somewhat more subdued, but even more inspiring affair."
