4 Interview Questions You Have To Ask | The NonProfit Times

4 Interview Questions You Have To Ask | The NonProfit Times: All job seekers should know that the way they present themselves in a job interview can go a long way to determining whether or not they get the job. What might not be as obvious is that asking the right questions is a big part of making a good impression.

Job interview questions are essential as they show the employer you have genuine interest in the position. Even worse than asking no questions, however, is asking questions that show you have done no research about the job or the organization. With this in mind, it’s important that you create a list of questions you want to ask before the interview, much in the same way you would prepare key talking points.

Giving on a prayer; could charities really put awareness above fundraising and hope for the best? | nfpSynergy

Giving on a prayer; could charities really put awareness above fundraising and hope for the best? | nfpSynergy: When we asked people about what makes people support their favourite charities, 41% said that “events in their life led them to decide issues were important”. A third said they “already felt strongly about issues and searched for a charity supporting them”. The personal experience is powerful.

The key stat though, for me, is that just 7% said they support a charity because a charity asked them to. Considering the public believe charities spend 25% of their income on fundraising and say 22% is acceptable, surely there’s an imbalance. 22% of money to get 7% of donors?

Our Opinion: OHSU hits the field running to win big time

Our Opinion: OHSU hits the field running to win big time: aking Oregon a trendsetter in philanthropy would be another side benefit if OHSU is able to pull this off. The clock, however, is already ticking, and the outcome is less than certain. People involved with philanthropy say the quickest route to success would be to tap people with the ability to give $1 million or more.

This list could include OHSU’s current major donors, other foundations and contributors who’ve never been approached before. Also, according to the experts, it could include Nike suppliers and athletes who’ve been helped by Nike along the way — a potential source of nonconventional donors.

Nonprofit groups find trick is treating donors to fun, frights - pressofAtlanticCity.com: Breaking News: The Scullville Volunteer Fire Company used to make its money the same way as most volunteer fire companies do, by hosting Bingo games and spaghetti dinners and having its firefighters stand on street corners collecting spare change.

But since its annual Terror in the Junkyard haunted hayride started 13 years ago - bringing in an annual profit of about $15,000 - the fire company has quit the traditional money-making methods and focuses its fundraising efforts solely on the month of October.

Should an Organization Have a Formal Gift-Acceptance Policy? - Fundraising Non-Profit Fund-raising Resource - Tony Poderis | Fundraising Non-Profit Fund-raising Resource – Tony Poderis: am often asked—and it is a recurring topic in fund-raising forums—about whether non-profits should have a formal gift-acceptance policy. My questioners aren’t just concerned about the rare donation that may come with a tinge of doubt about the donor or a level of concern that acceptance of a specific gift may shine a less than favorable light on the organization. Some seem to have a desire to delineate in writing what an organization will and will not accept as a donation.

The end of charity poker rooms in Michigan? State regulators eye even stricter rules | MLive.com

The end of charity poker rooms in Michigan? State regulators eye even stricter rules | MLive.com: Michigan's charity gaming industry grew from less than $8 million in chip sales in fiscal year 2004 to more than $197 million in fiscal year 2011. Chip sales dipped to $184 million in fiscal 2012. The games have raised $103 million for charities in the past nine years, while poker rooms raked in $86 million and players won more than $680 million.

But much of that could come to a halt early next year if the Michigan Gaming Control Board goes through with proposed rule changes that would effectively eliminate permanent charity poker rooms. Officials say the rule changes address problems with gaming violations and crimes at some poker rooms while making sure charities' best interests are protected.

Voluntourism: The perks and pitfalls The Boar

Voluntourism: The perks and pitfalls The Boar: Voluntourism is an increasingly popular form of travel which allows us to travel to exotic and culturally rich countries, whilst helping raise money for charity. While the idea of jetting off to such interesting places and exploring far off destinations is highly appealing and entices many of us into enrolling in voluntourism, there are many things that are not so appealing when you actually arrive on these charity adventures.

This summer, a group of Warwick RAG students set off to Peru and, although we had the time of our lives, there were some definite bumps in the road along our journey to the land of the Incas.

Building accountability through leadership | Troy Media

Building accountability through leadership | Troy Media: Here’s an example of how an organization can miss out on a job well done:

A charity hires a special event consultant to run their annual fundraising gala. All the information gathered for the gala is collected by the consultant and housed on spreadsheets. But no one from the organization has thought to enter the information into the donor database for current evaluation or future use.

Why did this happen?

Can Email Move Us to Give? - SankyNet - Integrated fundraising for nonprofits

Can Email Move Us to Give? - SankyNet - Integrated fundraising for nonprofits: Email fundraising is a learned craft. And it's a very tough one. In just a few words, we must tell a story that will quickly and deeply resonate. In an email, every single word we use is precious. Every single phrase is potentially powerful— and potentially deadly. There is no margin to misstep or even settle for something that's just OK. One bad choice and you may lose your donor or prospect to the black hole of the "unsubscribe" button forever.

Fortunately, many fundraisers do seem to be learning the craft, and learning it well. Last we did the math, the amount of money being raised via email in the U.S. was numbering in the billions of dollars.
