7 Questions: Accountability for Community Impact | Leadership That Creates the Future: The quality of life in our communities is hugely affected by the work of many, many small groups of people who give their time to make something better.

Over time, they attract community resources – volunteers, donations, gifts in kind, free use of community space. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the goal of our efforts to attract all those resources is the direct impact we intend to have in the community.

Growing up, Clarence Wardell cultivated a love of learning and technology at the Detroit Area Pre College Engineering Program. So when he came across Citizen Effect’s Detroit4Detroit, a platform that helps people find projects that meet their interests and raise funds to support them, he immediately joined to help send one student from the Detroit area to spend a summer learning about engineering at the University of Michigan.

This report distills findings from more than 400 pages of research amassed over three years as part of NCRP’s Grantmaking for Community Impact Project (GCIP). The project documented $26.6 billion in benefits for taxpayers and communities in 13 states, and found that every dollar grantmakers and other donors invested in policy and civic engagement provided a return of $115 in community benefit.

Charity notebook: Foundation to let public vote on nonprofits competing for grant money | syracuse.com: Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Central New York Community Foundation will celebrate its 85th anniversary this year by giving away money.

The foundation is launching a grant competition, The CNY85 Giving Project, that will be based on a public vote. The project will award grants over the course of this year to four nonprofit organizations working to improve the quality of life in Central New York.

The project that gets the most public votes on the foundation's website at the end of each quarter will receive $8,500.
