massnonprofit news ::: "uly 28, 2015 — While salaries for professional fundraisers in the United States last year remained about the same as the year before, Massachusetts fundraisers, on average, earn more than those in the Northeast or the country as a whole, according to newly released findings.

Average pay across the country in 2014 was $75,913, less than 1% higher than the 2013 average of $75,483, according to the 2015 AFP Compensation and Benefits Report published by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)."

Within each chapter, there are numerous opportunities to serve in a variety of areas. During my greatest chapter involvement, I was the keynote speaker at our first National Philanthropy DayOpens in a new window event, chair of the philanthropy awards dinner, marketing vice president in charge of weekly speakers, plus other educational functions. As chapter president, I decided to give out little Oscars at each weekly luncheon to members that supported the profession in extraordinary ways.

Another reason to drop catalog sales is that schools only keep a portion of what they sell — 42 percent on average, according to the Association of Fund-Raising Distributors and Suppliers. A letter to Sleepy Hollow parents explaining the switch noted that "the exciting part of this fundraising program is that 100 percent of your donation goes to support PTA programs (not 50 percent, as before) and it is tax deductible!"

Charities must make a "comprehensive effort to reach out to the business community" about the benefits of payroll giving, according to Andrew Watt, the chief executive of the US-based Association of Fundraising Professionals.
