Chao family donates $40 million to Harvard Business School - Boston.com: The Harvard Business School is significantly expanding its mission of training current business leaders with the addition of a second executive education center, funded by a $40 million gift from the family of former US Labor Secretary, Elaine L. Chao.

At a ceremony Friday the school announced the donation from Dr. James Si-Cheng Chao, a shipping magnate, and his family. Four of Chao’s daughters, including Elaine Chao, attended the Harvard Business School. The center will be named after his late wife, Ruth Mulan Chu Chao.

You hear it all the time: Experienced executives fretting, obsessing, and despairing about finding great development staff. Yet development directors have horror stories about employment situations that lead them to carbohydrates and medication and that eventually send them out the door.

Here are five mistakes I see boards and executives make that ensure their development director will leave.

All industries increased total giving, with the Consumer Staples and Health Care sectors leading the charge in total giving growth. Median total giving of companies surveyed came in at $21.2 million.
