EFFINGHAM — The Rosebud Theatre was given one more shot at survival Tuesday when the city of Effingham agreed to buy the theater.
The purchase is a first step in a plan that will give the nonprofit group, Arts Connection of Central Illinois, two years to make the theater viable. The theater closed in December after just two years of operations."

Despite a depressed economy, giving to the United Way's 100 Neediest Cases campaign has remained steady as donation efforts begin to wind down for the season.
The campaign thus far has raised approximately $1.25 million in cash contributions. Vanessa Wayne, director of the campaign for the United Way of Greater St. Louis, said she expects the campaign to hit its $1.3 million goal."

Fairbanks Daily News-Miner - The voice of Interior Alaska since 1903: "ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A computer problem that prevented some people from donating a portion of their Permanent Fund Dividend to charity has been fixed, state officials said.
The system apparently was unable to deal with the high level of traffic at the beginning of the year, when people can file for the money, the Anchorage Daily News reported Tuesday.
Last year, about 1 percent of filers contributed a total of $545,000 through the Pick-Click-Give program to more than 100 nonprofits. One-fourth the number of filers have contributed so far this year."
