Fred Leeb: Who Cares About Nonprofit Finances? The Top 12 Reasons Why the Most Vulnerable Are at Risk: Who is Responsible to Ensure that Nonprofits Operate Most Efficiently?
Everyone and no one. While the great majority of people in the nonprofit world are good people, this doesn't necessarily mean that the financial system is functioning most effectively. When everyone and no one is responsible, it means that nonprofit clients/customers/patients can easily fall through the cracks because nobody without other vested interests represents them at the table. This is a tremendous flaw in our nonprofit system. The most vulnerable people often have:

Derrick Feldmann: Why the Nonprofit World Needs Millennials
Derrick Feldmann: Why the Nonprofit World Needs Millennials: And while generational generalities abound for today's Millennials just as they do for every 20-something cohort that comes of age and is let loose in the real world, we believe there is another story that is unfolding. It's one of diversity, tolerance and innovation that has yet to be fully realized. Today's Millennials are transforming communities, relieving suffering and pursuing social change in a way that may run counter to the traditional ways of organizing, but it's because they are wired to work differently -- collaboratively, transparently, interactively, and entrepreneurially -- to affect positive change in their local communities and around the world.

How charities can benefit from key performance indicators | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional
How charities can benefit from key performance indicators | Voluntary Sector Network | Guardian Professional: I can find no good reason why any charity cannot benefit in the same way as businesses from measuring its KPIs. The system for measuring need not be complicated and in its conception and implementation it should not be too expensive. To measure impact or results is the most basic of KPIs. Charities are obliged to publish what they spend but is not what they get for their expenditure just as important, if not more so?

Nonprofits face an uphill financial struggle | The News Leader | newsleader.com: Ideas, dreams, and what if’s are the stuff that can make social change come about. Many nonprofits in existence today started out with a couple of people who shared a vision of community support for those in need. The more they shared the vision with like-minded people, the more momentum that idea gained.
Today we have national and local organizations that have sprung from those ideas, working in communities. The question is, what makes it possible for these ideas to take flight? And why do some succeed, while others struggle or fail?

Strategic Philanthropy: Who Wins and Loses? - NPQ – Nonprofit Quarterly - Promoting an active and engaged democracy.: I am beginning to believe that the notion of so-called “strategic philanthropy,” in all of its beguiling and shape-shifting forms, is a very powerful accomplice in transforming the funding ecology and structure of the nonprofit sector. Quite simply, it shifts the onus for creativity and decision making to those who have control of the finances and narrows, in many cases, the number of groups with whom philanthropists have to reciprocally communicate as they “focus” ever more acutely not just on the outcomes they hope for but on their preferred strategy for production of those outcomes.
Giving Slows At the Mid-Year Point: How to Respond - Press - AFP
Giving Slows At the Mid-Year Point: How to Respond - Press - AFP: Chuck Longfield, Chief Scientist for Blackbaud, notes that giving was increasing during the summer of 2011 by double digits, compared to the previous year. “If we had been able to keep that sort of growth going, we’d have seen fundraising restored to roughly 2008 levels.”
However, looking at the data from the Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, Longfield notes that the improvements and increases in 2012 have been getting smaller and smaller each month—to the point that overall giving was essentially flat in May, and increased just 1.6 percent in June. “Between those drops and inflation, we’re basically at the same level of giving as we were last year at this time.”
