The Blackbaud Index reported that overall charitable giving to nonprofits decreased 0.1% while online giving increased 6.5% for the three months ending March 2016 as compared to the same period in 2015.
As reported in the recently released Charitable Giving Report, overall giving in the United States increased 1.6% while online giving grew 9.2% for the full year 2015 as compared to the full year 2014. The Blackbaud Index debuts new specialty index focused on giving to foundations
Charleston, S.C. (August 3, 2015) – Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB) today updated The Blackbaud Index with charitable giving trends through June 2015, as well as announced the addition of a new foundation specialty index that tracks revenue from giving to foundations.
Based on data from 5,170 charities that raised more than $17 billion in the prior 12 months, The Blackbaud Index reported that overall charitable giving decreased 0.5 percent for the three months ending June 2015, compared to the same period a year earlier.
Among 3,786 charities that raised over $2 billion online in the prior 12 months, online giving grew 13.8 percent in the same three-month period, compared to the same period a year earlier."

(NASDAQ: BLKB) today updated The Blackbaud Index with charitable giving trends through April 2014 as well as announced the launch of a new higher education specialty index that tracks fundraising revenue for colleges and universities.
Based on data from 4,138 organizations that raised more than $13 billion in the prior 12 months, The Blackbaud Index reported that overall charitable giving grew 1.3 percent for the three months ending April 2014, as compared to the same period in 2013.
Among 3,281 charities that raised $1.8 billion online in the prior 12 months, online giving grew 7.9 percent in the same three-month period, as compared to the same period in 2013.

Giving Slows At the Mid-Year Point: How to Respond - Press - AFP: Chuck Longfield, Chief Scientist for Blackbaud, notes that giving was increasing during the summer of 2011 by double digits, compared to the previous year. “If we had been able to keep that sort of growth going, we’d have seen fundraising restored to roughly 2008 levels.”
However, looking at the data from the Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, Longfield notes that the improvements and increases in 2012 have been getting smaller and smaller each month—to the point that overall giving was essentially flat in May, and increased just 1.6 percent in June. “Between those drops and inflation, we’re basically at the same level of giving as we were last year at this time.”
