Applied Materials Foundation gives $1 million for emergency assistance to needy in South Bay - San Jose Mercury News: "Tens of thousands of working poor — finding themselves in precipitous economic circumstances — will benefit from the new fund, which will be distributed through the United Way and other social service agencies that help the needy with food, shelter, prescription medication and transportation"
