Alice has once again provided valuable and usable information. Our boards would be so much stronger if more people did their due diligence as she recommends. I would go further, though. I would ask these additional questions however:

Why do you want to serve?

Where does your passion lay? Will this organization fulfill that?

Can you wholeheartedly embrace the vision?

Are you committed to the organization’s values? Are you willing to be the lone voice if others expediently forget about those values?

What skills to you have/do you want to contribute?

Do you have the time to serve – to do more than go to a monthly meeting?

Are you willing to make this a priority?

Are you comfortable raising issues, concerns and questions, even when everyone else seems satisfied and ready to move on?

Are you willing to contribute your own money to this organization – at a stretch level?

Are you willing to use your circle of influence to encourage others to give their time and money?

Are you chomping at the bit to share this wonderful organization with others?

Do you truly understand and accept that this is about the community, not you or the organization?
