She said the $1,600 she now spends every other week can buy more at the local grocery store than at the food bank."

A massive canned food drive by local Boy Scouts has kept the Glade Valley Food Bank in relatively good shape through the year, volunteer Orley Bourland said.
The Walkersville food bank, the second largest in Frederick County, receives most of its support from the community but does collect ripened produce and other items taken off the shelves of area grocery stores, Bourland said.
