The recent devastation associated with Hurricane Dean may result in a new crop of fraudulent charities, warns Attorney General Bill McCollum and state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson. They encourage those want to help to determine if a charity is registered in Florida by calling 1-800-HELP-FLA. In Florida, charities are required to register with the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. They also advise contributors to ask charities for their financial report and federal tax identification number."
