VIEWERS defied the credit crunch to donate a record-smashing £57million to Comic Relief.

Donations stood at £57,809,938 at the end of the BBC telethon easily beating the previous record of £40.5million in 2007.

The Red Nose Day charity, which has been running for 21 years, expects more to flood in."
