United Way of Central Maryland changes policy on designated gifts - 2004-08-30 - Baltimore Business Journal: "Changes to United Way's fund-raising this year include a new policy on designated gifts. The only directed donations this year will be to agencies that deliver health and human services, which have been hit hardest. United Way itself has shed more than 21 full-time and eight part-time positions over the past 16 months.
'There are many wonderful cultural, artistic and educational institutions in central Maryland that deserve support,' Breiner said. 'But United Way's purpose is to address health and human service needs.' "
