Congress and the Internal Revenue Service are looking rather uncharitably on some of the nation's nonprofit groups.
The IRS has announced an aggressive program to investigate the salaries of nonprofits' executives and board members, some of which exceed $1 million annually. The government's interest is twofold: It grants tax-exempt status to nonprofits, and the public contributes billions of dollars to those groups each year. "
