RALEIGH, N.C. -- They're only eight miles apart - a distance on 'Tobacco Road' that breeds competition in everything from basketball to the size of the endowments at Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
And even though both rank among the 47 U.S. schools with endowments of at least $1 billion, the public UNC, the flagship campus of the state's public university system, knows just how much it needs to catch up with the private Duke."
