Democrat & Chronicle: Editorials: "Arts and prosperity
There is a link, and this community must use it as leverage
(June 25, 2007) — There's now quantifiable evidence that not only do Monroe County's nonprofit cultural and arts groups contribute substantially to the region's high quality of life, but that they're also a huge boost to the local economy.
A national survey by Americans for the Arts, the nation's premier arts advocacy group, found that the nonprofits generate $198.9 million annually in Monroe County. For perspective, consider that similar groups pumped $198.5 million into the Nashville region, which is known worldwide as a mecca for country music."
