$6.5 million Telethon total smashes records | PerthNow: "TELETHON has smashed all past records raising a total of more than $6.5 million for children's charity at its 40th annual telecast. The amount was double Telethon's previous best total. State and Federal Governments, private enterprise and the general public all contributed significantly to the total. An ambitious target of $4 million had been set before this year's telecast which is the culmination of a year of fund raising events."
