RISMEDIA, Oct. 5 -- (KRT) -- A bill in Trenton, N.J., has thrust a thorny question on state officials: How much open space is too much?
The legislation would allow local officials to block the state from buying land within their borders if more than 30 percent of the town is already preserved and tax-exempt. It also allows mayors and councils to keep land bought by non-profit groups for conservation from being declared tax-exempt, effectively blocking the deals. "
