Delta Democrat Times Online: Local News: "Mississippi turns a tidy nonprofit
State's largest charities and nonprofits spend more than Mississippi's general fund annually on community services
Mississippi has long been known as a very giving state. Our residents have opened their billfolds, pocketbooks and checkbooks to needy and worthwhile causes at a much higher rate than most of the nation's more affluent states.
The Mississippi Nonprofit Sector, a report released last week by the Mississippi Center for Nonprofits and prepared by the National Council of Nonprofit Associations, confirms the importance of all that giving and the importance nonprofits play in the state and our economy.
Mississippi's 6,000-plus nonprofits spend more than $4 billion annually on community services ranging from healthcare and human services to community improvement, education, youth programs,"
