Almost every nonprofit web site makes that one-click pitch to visitors. A host of software companies -- both for-profit and not-for-profit -- are rushing to help them make it, and investors are seeing market opportunities.
Last month, GetActive in Berkeley closed a $7 million venture round co-led by Pacific Partners and El Dorado Ventures. The 4-year-old company had previously raised $2 million from private investors. It reached profitability two years ago. GetActive has annual revenue over $5 million and 70 employees split between Berkeley and Washington, D.C.
The two biggest companies making software expressly for nonprofits, Kintera in San Diego and Blackbaud in Charleston, S.C., both went public in the past 12 months and have seen their share prices rise. And Convio of Austin, Texas, the fourth large player in the field, closed $15"
