Blount gift spurs work of foundation


For decades members of the Blount family have been among the greatest benefactors of charitable causes and the arts in Montgomery. Despite the deaths in recent years of patriarch Winton 'Red' Blount and his first wife, Mary Katharine Blount, that generosity continued this week with the donation of $9.6 million from the Mary Katherine Archibald Blount Foundation to the Central Alabama Community Foundation.
The gift was the largest to date to the Community Foundation, which raises endowment funds to meet the charitable needs of Montgomery and the surrounding area. It brings the endowments of the Community Foundation to more than $25 million."
