New Zealand News - NZ - Cullen says Charities Bill a bit more charitable now

New Zealand News - NZ - Cullen says Charities Bill a bit more charitable now: "Changes to the controversial Charities Bill agreed yesterday by the Cabinet will please community groups, says Acting Prime Minister Michael Cullen.
He said the intent of the controversial bill had been 'subverted' by 'bureaucratic complexity and regulatory demands'.
In August the Government indicated the bill was likely to be rewritten after it was slammed by a stream of submissions from charities.
The bill establishes a commission to register and monitor charities. Registration is voluntary but charities miss out on tax exemption if they don't sign. "
