The Chronicle, 2/2/2005: President Bush Proposes $150-Million in Grants to Charities That Work to Keep Young People Out of Gangs: "In his State of the Union address tonight, President Bush asked Congress to provide money to nonprofit organizations to help young men stay out of gangs and pursue a life that 'respects women and rejects violence.'

The grants program, which the White House said would provide $150-million to secular and religious groups, would unfold over three years. The president said that First Lady Laura Bush would lead the effort."
