A recent report on non-profit organizations in Alabama shows that three groups in Cleburne County make a positive impact.
The report, The Alabama Nonprofit Sector Report, aims to build awareness about the vital role nonprofits play in Alabamas economy.
The primary source for the data comes from Form 990 annual reports filed with the Internal Revenue Service by charitable groups with over $25,000 gross annual receipts and information from the Nonprofit Resource Center of Alabama.
At the end of 2002, Alabama had nearly 10,500 charitable nonprofit organizations registered with the IRS, and this figure does not include the states foundations and religious organizations which also positively impact their communities, said George Elliott, NRCAs executive director. Of this amount there were 3,161 reporting charitable nonprofits, and these organizations had $6.6 billion in expenditures in 2002 - five percent of the Gross State Product in Alabama. Also, the value of the assets of the reporting nonprofits totaled $11.6 billion. These figures underscore the tremendous impact that Alabamas nonprofit sector has on our states economy."
