India Infoline News: "Govt needs pvt sectors' help to manage disasters: Krishna Vatsa 2/19/2005 11:51:44 AM IST

Krishna Vatsa, Secretary, Relief & Rehabilitation, Government of Maharashtra said, 'In the recent years, the exposure risk to disasters in India has increased exponentially and investments to manage disasters have also grown. And in such a situation, government does not have the capacity to manage such large investments and undertake relief and rehabilitation on its own and so private partners have to be involved'. He cited the examples of the Latur and Bhuj earthquakes where such a partnership was forged to undertake relief and rehabilitation work.
Private sector plays a major role and 'the government cannot work without the involvement of the private sector to manage disasters'. Vatsa was speaking at the panel discussion on 'Public and Private Partnership in Disatster Management' recently organized by the Bombay Management Association (BMA) and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies."
