Australians are happy to give to charity but are fed up with aggressive marketing by non-profit organisations, a new government report has found.
The preliminary findings of the federal government's report, Giving Australia: Research on Philanthropy in Australia, showed most individuals were keen on charities that made a difference to their local community.
'There is a tendency towards supporting community welfare organisations, especially if people are seen to be relatively innocent victims such as children (or) animals,' the report said.
'People in regional communities want to give locally.'"
